Betty asks…

Am I really a boring young adult?

I've been out with my mum today and my brother commented I was boring because I had bought Twelfth Night and Hamlet by Shakespeare, Five German tragedies (book), three newspapers (The local paper, The Independent and The wall street Journal - europe)

I like reading classics. I like rock music, some jazz, blues and classical music too. I don't go out to get drunk, never attended a party. I love going to school. I like foreign language films, the theatre, going to museums and art galleries.
Most girls my age - I'm 18 - have lots of shoes and clothes whilst I just have mountains of books and CD's (I have over 300 books)
I'm happy to spend my time in libraries. I watch the news on the TV and documentaries. I have a big interest in economics and politics rather than celebrities.

Am I really boring?

Artie answers:

Well in my opinion you shouldn't listen to your brother they always say stupid things only once in a while can you actually take what they say into consideration. I also have one so i know...lol

I'm also 18 and i've never been to a party and never been drunk. I would pick a good book over does any day, even though i love shopping and going out to the cinemas.

Some people might think that you are boring but everyone has different interests. Your not the only person that is like that.

I don't think your boring i believe the people that are boring are the one that want to be the same as someone else.

Lisa asks…

is it just me or are american fans more aggressive and tough acting then other mma fans?

if you look at ufc events in america and compare them to britain or japan the setting is much more different...i meen americans seems to be more like wanting to see a street fight and british and japan fans like to see more of a technical fight.. ive looked at documentaries on japan martial arts and mma and the people pf Japan seem to welcome there home japan fighters weather they lose 4 or 5 in a row. they support there fighters and are extremely loyal fans. as for america if you look at the machida fight it seems many americans bad mouth him now... i can see if you don't think he won but why do they treat him like that? did machida not agree to an immediate rematch? the hardcore japan martial artis seem very friendly and don't walk around with egos.. the biggest argument i have is they are willing to share there opinions nicely as for americans ive seen time and time again on blogs you make a comment they don't like or agree with and the americans make you feel like total and shyt and question you watching mma in the first place? whats up with that? americans arguing amongst each other over a matter of opinion? just rude..... im not saying all americans like that..nore am i saying all japanians are like that but it seems like a vast majority are. and this isn't just my opinion. ive seen and heard plenty of people talking about how American mma fans are and i agree so i thought id bring it up... if you bad mouth this and get all "pissy" you're probably the one im referring to anyways... so please don't get offended.
Again when it all comes down to it. it is a matter of opinion! i am simply requestion your opinion on the subject whether you agree with me or not that is fine. but voice your opinions freindly!

theres no need to get all pissy.. BUT if you do or wanna make fun or mock it......if it makes you feel better by all means go for it...

Artie answers:

No.

Soccer fans around the world are far more passionate and aggressive about their sport.

Sandra asks…

Do I sound like a weird 13 year old girl?

I don't wear dresses, skirts, make-up etc.
I'm really into science. I like blowing stuff up, and little science expirements.
I'm really into gadgets & electronics. And unlike my friends who use their computers for facebook (Which I don't use), I use mine to make short documentaries etc.
I am very artistic, most people in my year dropped art because of the teacher, but I still do it and they think i'm crazy, and I spend a lot of my time doodling and might spend 60 hours on a particular painting and my friends just tell me to get a life & get a boyfriend (Only one in my year not to have had my 1st kiss).
I love animals. My friends think they are cute and all, but I like to observe them and I don't know, I don't just go out and get fluffy puppies and forget, I'm more into saving them and just yesterday I picked a dog of the streets who was injured and went around the area for 3hrs to see if I could locate the owners or even see if people recognised him & I done a whole lot more afterwards. My friends would have just let him be. And wouldn't have done anything and they think i'm just too caring and that I need a life (I have an amazing life).
I am fascinated by plane crashes, natural disasters, serial killers etc.
I love to follow sports, although I'm not the best player, I do like to participate in sports too. Swimming is my sport, watersports I take to like a duck to water, I am a bit like a duck, or a fish, I love to swim.
I'm a daredevil, I go on all 'big' rollercoasters & rides and I do other stupid things as my friends say (I plan on cliff-diving when I am old enough & I plan on sky-diving for charity when I am old enough).
And I LOVE cars, my dads business involves cars, and I've always had a strong love of cars, I was able to drive at age7 (But obviously I wasn't allowed, but even at ager 4 I would sit on by dads lap and steer or change the gears going down our driveway). And I can nearly judge what type of car it is by the sound of the engine.
And I'm trying to learn how to sign even though I don't need to know, I'm trying to teach myself.

Sorry it's long!
Do I sound a bit odd?
I'm certainly not like any 13 year old I know except my E-pal Amelie, that's why we get along so well (We have some really weird things in common, If I told you everything you'd be amazed).
I'm not self-consious
But I'm a lot different compared to my 'friends', but I'm happy I'm a bit different.
I just want HONEST opinions

Thanks for giving me your time
Well I know it's not uncommon to have my interests, but my so-called friends treat my like an outcast and are constantly trying to change me.
All the 11-14 year old girls I know won't leave the house without make-up, and take a million pictures for facebook and most of them act like helpless girl girls.
And I dnt txt like dis at all, I use propr gramr at all timez nd I use punctuation 2! xxxxx

People don't judge me by my dress sense, because we wear uniforms. They usually talk to me, and then a lot leave me alone after they get to know me.
They never see me dressed in my normal clothes because they don't see me outisde of school & I don't go to the friday night discos or anything like that with them. So It takes a while for them to get to know me.

But I'm pretty content in my seclusion, to be honest, I can be a bit.................
I'm just not a very sociable person, and i'm really quite shy

Artie answers:

Hey im a 13 year old girl to. Honestly you aren't wierd at all! Im sorta the exact opposite but i do love sports i play travel softball and volleyball and some tennis. So i have two different sides lol. If i saw you at school honestly you wouldn't be my first choice of person to talk to because i would look at how your dressed and im a total girly girl. I might even have been a little intimidated by you or not it depends. But after a few days i'd probably say hi.....
So if i only had a 5 second convo with you and looked at you for a few secs i would think you were a little different
If I actually got to talking to you i'd think your a really cool fun person
Although you think your a bit different your just a "tomboy" possibly
But hey like you said different is good and you should be happy your the way you are!
You sound like an amazing person Thanks for letting me answer and the 2 points it will help me reach level 2 PARTY!!! Then i can ask 10 questions a day yay! Thanks again

Ruth asks…

can someone review my personal statement?

it is my first prompt and is suppose to include the world i came from , school, and say it made me fulfill my dreams and aspirations:

Trying to not give into a extremely violent neighborhood and a non-supportive family wasn’t easy. In Mexico, my mother had up to an elementary education before leaving school due to low income and forced to work to support her family and my father was forced to drop out of college due to a lack of income and had to give up his dream of becoming a lawyer. Being the daughter of parents whose dream was cut short due to money problems, I knew I had to succeed and make my family proud of me. During elementary, I was introduced to listening to inspiring music such as Elvis Presley and BillieHoliday thanks to my uncle Felipe which shielded me of how in reality my life was really like. I started confusing him as my father and will rarely get to see my actual father since he was an alcoholic. My uncle passed away due to a tumor and AIDS and learned the tender age of 8 learned to become strong and independent .During middleschool, I began to learn about my surroundings and the place I was raised in. Classmates would begin to skip school, use drugs, smoke at the bathrooms and join gangs in order to protect their families and neighborhoods. Outside of school, my community was extremely violent, you couldn’t wear red without somebody trying to fight you, and I will often have to duck when drive-by shootings will occur. It was tough while growing up to make my parents proud of me, my older sister mayra would get honors and go on to a private college, and my 3rd eldest sister Gabby would follow in her footsteps. In contrast, my 2nd eldest sister Crystyanel would go on and get caught up in how the street life was. She would begin to ditch school (later drop out), abuse drugs, and threaten to murder my parents if they didn’t let her live the life she wanted. I would get physically abused by her and bullied when I will try to come to her for personal advice so I learned to cover up my emotions with making jokes about my self. I found comfort in what I was going threw by watching documentaries of other people’s lives, and was extremely fascinated in solving mysteries, deceased bodies and history. I would get called “weird” by my peers and family, but I could never change who I am and it served as some kind of therapy for me. My parents will constantly tell me to not become like Crystyanel and to be exactly like my other siblings. I will try hard in school and do the most I can but nothing was ever enough when my mom would bring my hopes completely down and will repeatedly say “your sisters did better” or “why can’t you be more like your sisters?” When I came into highschool, things changed dramatically. I was tired of trying follow trying to be under my siblings shadow, therefor, I started to rebel. I got kicked out of my college prep highschool and had to move from school to school til I settled into Manual Arts. Manual Arts has a reputation of having students that abuse drugs and alcohol and are gang related. My parents were very angry at me and gave up hope and will say “your going to turn exactly like crystyanel, why bother”. It got so bad, most of the time, I’d get involved in extracurricular activities such as soccer so I wouldn’t hear my family constantly calling me an idiot at home. During highschool, I couldn’t get my head straight nor try to do work. My life came into a hault when I over heard my father telling my mother “when she’s eighteen, I’m out, I’m sick and tired of investing my time and money to children that aren’t going to return my money back” .I came to the conclusion that nothing was ever enough and no one will be proud of my accomplishments in the end but myself. Seeing my siblings accomplish their dreams inspired to to do the same as well. Toward the end of eleventh grade I felt it was time to take action and do whats best for me. I began doing all my work, getting involved in college programs, lapd programs, and started applying for tutoring and AP classes. I felt as if life was slowly repairing itself and motivated me to go to greater lengths than I ever imagined in order to fulfill my dreams in becoming a forensic anthropologist .

Artie answers:

You really need to focus it more. This seems like a lot of jumbled facts. You need better organization and a point.

A personal statement usually includes the following. You need a good attention grabber. In general you want your essay to follow this order:

Paragraph 1-2 attention grabber. Think of an experience in your life that really showcases who you are. Be detailed. Discuss something significant in your life. It could be anything. Or discuss why you want to be in your profession or what story inspired you to study what you are studying.

Paragraph 3-4. Highlight your academics: GPA, classes. What skills you learned in class that will help in succeeding in college. Awards and honors that you have received. Sports or clubs that you are in.

Paragraph 5. Jobs that you have had that relate to your major? Any other things about yourself that you want to include

Paragraph 6: Conclusion. In this conclusion you may want to re-state your main qualifications. You can also include any of the following statements: My goal is.... I deserve this scholarship because....

I will edit it for you if you email it to me
