Your Questions About Japanese Art History

Thomas asks…
Is it possible to go to school in Japan as a foreigner?
I'm going to be finishing up my Associates Degree in a few more months and I wanted to know if it was possible to move to Japan to finish off my 4 year?
I plan on studying Japanese language, culture, history and art.
If so will I also be able to get work with a student type visa?
Thank you ahead of time
Grant

Artie answers:
Some possibility remain though, first of all, you must pass this exam.

That means you must have at least daily life Japanese skill before entering any university in Japan as transfer student to study Japanese because in Japan most of all classes have been lectured in Japanese only.
Every university is very difficult to enter but easy to graduate in Japan.
Student visa may allow you upto 28 hours/week to work if the official application is approved.
The Japanese university must apply C.O.E. For you with certain evidence of your creditability/current status in your school to apply your visa to Japanese embassy. The procedure is very strict and not easy.

Michael asks…
I'm obsessed with death and gore. What should I do?
I'm a teenage girl and I'm studying the International Baccelaureate at college in the UK. I'm taking English, Art, History, Japanese, Ecology and Maths Studies. I'm not very good at maths or science subjects, but I've been told that I have a real talent for drawing, painting and writing. I love Art and English, and I'm also really interested in the Japanese language.
Ever since I can remember I've been a very morbid person and I've been fascinated with death, violence, violent crimes, accidents and gore. I wanted to study medicine so I could eventually become a forensic pathologist, but I realised that I don't have the mental strength you need to qualify as a doctor (I'm smart but my mental health is very delicate and I can't cope with personal pressure). I'm aware that it's a bit sick, but I feel passionate about anything to do with 'real life horror' and I want a job related to this. I'd also like to do something varied/exciting, which would require me to use my brain. Any ideas?
Hahaha no, murder is a hobby not a career XD
Seriously though, can anyone name some jobs that might suit me? I thought crime scene photographer might be a good one, but you have to be a cop or somethign first, right? :/

Artie answers:
Dig into the most morbid parts of your brain and write a long and detailed movie script. If your brain is as morbid as you say, you'll be a millionaire

Ken asks…
Books on historical Japanese figures?
Can someone recommend books on real legendary historical people throughout Japanese history? People like famous samurai, founders of martial arts/religion, historical leaders, and just well known Japanese mythology in general.

Artie answers:
The leading authority in English on ancient and feudal Japan is Stephen Turnbull.
All of his books on the topic are good, you will find the info you are looking for in them.

Donna asks…
Do you think this is a good IB course selection for a typical art student?
Hi, I am a sophomore who dreams to become a graphic designer in her future life, and I have chose the following courses for my IB diploma next year:
(Before advising, it will be thankful if you can put in mind that I am full Japanese (English is my second language), and that I will probably be applying for a college which will be mainly focusing on art and design. I might even be staying in Japan... not sure.)
Art HL
Japanese HL
English OR History HL
English OR History SL
Biology SL
Math studies SL
So here are a few questions I'd want to ask,
*Which would be better to take? English HL or History HL?
I do good in history, but I'm not sure about English... she's a really harsh grader and she gives us unreasonable demands that don't even make sense. However, my mom is eagerly demanding me to take English HL, apparently because she really wants me to improve on English for my future life and career. Will it help me for the future?
*Which would be better to take? Math studies or Math SL?
I'm okay in math, I usually score around A-'s. It's just that since I really want to concentrate on art for the next two years, I really don't want to spend time on things that aren't really necessary for my future life and career.
*Is Bio SL the easiest science subject you can take?
I really really really do sh*t in science... I've never got a grade above B+ other than those really small tests and easy reports and stuff hahaha. Yeah I know I suck. But that's why I want to take a really easy science course if possible. Any other ideas, or do you think I should just stick with Bio SL?
*What are the easiest/hardest IB courses?
*Is Art HL a difficult course?
*Do you think this is a good IB course selection? Any thing you can say about it?
Sorry I know there are a lot of questions...
It'd be nice if you can at least answer one though.
Thank you (: I'll definitely give 10 points to the person who gave me the best answer! ![]()
Sorry I forgot to write this...
About English. What I mean about "she" is the current English teacher I have now.
The reason why I don't want to take is because there is a high chance of he to be in charge of English HL next year and I would really really not want her to be my English this year.
It's just not fair.. other people in different classes get like A's and A-'s without working hard or spending time, while people in my class get B's constantly...
k sorry for the millions of typos i have...

Artie answers:
1) I personally think it would be better if you took English A2 HL and History SL rather than taking English A1 SL and History HL. English A2 focuses on language and literature, so I don't think it'd be as demanding. History HL (in my school, I am also a sophomore who is deciding his IB subjects at the moment in Indonesia), is quite a demanding subject when the teacher explained the course. There would be many reading and analysis-type assignments, which she (the History teacher described) would also require really high level english and have at least a good english background to take HL. Since you are also majoring in Art, it might be better to develop your English because A2 English also helps your communication skills, which most probably be needed for your future.
2) You are going to be an Art student, and it doesn't matter which Maths you take. If you want to go for Math SL, since you have a quite good score, and you are capable, why not? But if you think you might be struggling next year because of maths SL and maybe focus less on your art, I'd recommend taking the Math Studies, because it's not gonna help you much later in life. Nevertheless, don't forget that maybe 10, 15 years after your graduation you might be tired of doing art (who knows) and ergo, if you are capable, take Maths SL, if not, Math Studies is also fine.
3. I think History HL is a very demanding subject, along with Maths, Chem, and/or Physics HL. But it all comes down to what you're good at actually. For me, I don't think I will have a problem with Maths and Physics HL because I am one of the best math students in my grade, but I do have trouble memorizing stuff (Bio HL is a very bad choice for me).
4. Depends. If you like art, I'm sure things will go along real great. If you already like art and by your scores on other subjects you seem to be competent, I think it would not be a problem.
5. I didn't answer the Bio SL because I suck at bio (memorizing mostly). If you really want to major in Art, I'd advice you to only do one thing, don't take history unless you really have high English skills, and you're good at analyzing and enjoy heaps of reading. And for the sciences, if your logic works, take Chem SL, if your memory is better, take Bio SL, Physics SL is quite demanding also so I guess don't take it.
PS: Overall nice IB selection. And please do not blame me for any misinformation, because I am also at the same stage at you, only I have received a basic introduction to IB courses. Oh! Your final IB Scores are going to get marked by an outsider, so don't worry, everything you work for has its rewards in the end. Again, if any information is misleading, or wrong, please accept my apologies and please do not murder me using cybertech. XD good luck choosing with your IB, because the hard part comes afterwards.
So.... You do graphic design right? Do you have a sample online... I'm quite an avid digital art kind of person, although I really suck at doing art, but I appreciate all kinds of it.
Hope it helps!
