What do you guys do for your pets arthritis?
I have a basett hound he has arthritis any suggestions? I took him to the vet of course they want to put him on a lot of medication anything else I can do?
We lucked out with a good vet who offers acupuncture @ a reasonable rate. Our dog responds very well & falls asleep during the treatments.
You may wish to consider a holistic DVM that will offer other medications. Many pharmacies blend special medicinal compounds for animals that are effective.
Etogesic has been easiest on our animals systems for pain control. Some blow out the liver quickly & this has served us well.
What are some signs that dogs may have arthritis?
My dogs has been not very active all day. Hes a 13 year old German Shepherd. He has been licking his paw almost all day. He has also been walking kind of awkward. Please tell me some signs of arthritis in dogs.
Common signs are difficulty standing up and laying back down, can't jump on furniture anymore, hard to go upstairs, crossing legs in the back, wobbly or shaky when standing, not wanting to run and play as much. Very common in older dogs, especially big dogs. There are good arthritis medicines made for dogs...as well as joint supplements. See your vet as soon as possible to help make your dog comfortable in his old age.
What flooring would you recommend for dog with arthritis?
My dog is getting old and has arthritis. She tends to slip and slide across my tile floor in the kitchen. What type of flooring would be better for this area?
Personally, I recommend cork. It's resilient, soft, antibacterial and easy to clean.
If you do go with it, make sure you buy a quality product. While it is excellent for dogs joints, it is soft and if you don't get a quality product, it can scratch or gouge.

Can rheumatoid arthritis pain follow my menstrual cycle?
I have rheumatoid arthritis and celiac disease. I've noticed the joint pain is so much worse right before my menstrual cycle. Has anyone else experienced this? I assume it's from the changing hormone levels. I have little to no pain during the rest of the month.
My doctor says there should be no relation, but it occurs every month like clockwork. He's referring me to a rheumatologist, but I still think there is a link here.
Yes,you are right, not only hormone levels, but also chemical stimulate levels.
How can i stop my dog from getting arthritis?
I hear arthritis is one of the main reasons dogs are put to sleep, what can i do to stop my dog from getting it?
The short answer is that you can't. But you can do things to slow it down and lessen the likelihood of it occurring.
If you have a large breed, manage it's growth and exercise. Don't let it get overweight, as that increases stress on the joints. If the dog has any joint abnormalities, get on a good glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplement, like Glyco-Flex III or Synovi G3, as early as you can. These supplements are more effective before the arthritis begins, and can delay it's progress. The earlier, the better.
If you are thinking about buying a dog, make sure you go through a reputable breeder who does all the necessary health testing on their stock for joint issues common in their breeds. With larger breeds, this is usually hip and elbow dysplasia. In toys, patellar luxation. Dachshunds, spinal issues. A well-bred dog is less likely to have the joint problems that lead to arthritis.
